Baby zebras can’t swim
Zebras are great swimmers, but not their babies. And although they can walk and run within minutes of being born, baby zebras cannot swim.
Their muscles are not used to this function at birth. It is much later that they learn to do it. The shocked mother watched the baby plunge into the water. Knowing that the baby cannot swim, the mother began to make a noise and cry for help. She did not have enough strength to rescue her baby on her own, as she had spent hours giving birth and was exhausted, the baby was now in danger, ready to drown.
